Max Webster is one of the most in-demand British theatre directors of his generation. He read English at Cambridge (2001/5), then trained at L’École Jacques Lecoq in Paris (2005/6), and as a long-term associate to Simon McBurney at Complicite. He received RYTDS bursary to work at the Royal Exchange, Manchester (20012/3). As an opera staff director he has worked at the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, La Scala, Opera de Lyon & De Nederlands Opera. He was a Baylis director, then Associate Director (2015-2018) at the Old Vic, under Mathew Warchus, an is currently Associate Director at the Donmar Warehouse. His 2019 production of LIFE OF PI won five Olivier Awards and Three Tonys. It is currently on a UK tour, with the US tour starting later in 2024.

He currently lives in London with his wife and three children.
