Max has directed major productions in London across the West End, as well as The National Theatre, The Donmar Warehouse, The Old Vic, The Globe and English National Opera, as well as on Broadway, and round the world. He has been nominated for both a Tony and Olivier award for Best Director.

Upcoming work in 2026/7 includes One Day, The Musical at the Garrick and Cenerentolla at Glyndebourne.

Life Of Pi, Sheffield Crucible, 2019

Max’s production of LIFE OF PI won five Olivier awards in the West End and three Tonys on Broadway. It ran in several different productions for seven years across Europe, America and Asia.
